Hi there and welcome to

Highland Cavies of the Yellow Rose

We have been raising cavies since 1999
and like most of you, we started out with one guinea pig...
a beautiful REO Peruvian that we found in a pet shop.
We decided to call him " Nigel" or more affectionatly know
as "old parsley face" !!

Now we didn't go to the pet shop to get a guinea pig,
we went to get cat food,
but there he was, sitting in his cage,waiting for us,
and he was FREE !

Well...after $60 for his cage, $20 for his little house, $15 for toys
$40 for food and hay and $30 in cavy books,he was FREE.

And the crazy part is we never did get the cat food,
had to go back the next day to get it.

But we loved our boy, he was so sweet and funny,
whistled every morning with the alarm, demanded his parsley
every evening, squealed and pop-corned
whenever we went in the living room,
knew every square inch of floor in the entire house,
gave out piggie kisses to everyone,
and ruled over the cats and us.

Nigel passed away after a long battle with an upper respiratory
infection, but the love that he gave us
and the fun we had started a whole new passion for us.

So now we have a double garage full of guinea pigs;
Peruvians, Texels, Silkies, Abby's, and several Alpacas
In selfs and broken colors of red, black, white, cream and lilac.

We have made friends with some wonderful people,
fellow cavy lovers, from all over the
United States and Canada.
And have enjoyed going to shows and seeing all their
gorgeous piggies, and showing off some of ours!
